Witcher 3 nvidia hairworks looks bad. The witcher 3 hairworks looks kinda bad. Its looks ok but you seems to have a driver issue. The developer had hairworks code for nearly two years. Radeon users are encouraged to disable nvidia hairworks if the performance is below expectations.
But witcher 3 doesn t look bad at 30 cause there is a good amount of motion blur in it. This basically made the feature useless to amd users and made nvidia hardware look amazing in contrast. Near the end of the witcher 3 development cycle it was discovered that hairworks completely killed performance. Aug 4 2017 1 49pm nvidia hairworks looks like sh t the hair looks like plastic and it s not even effected by physics or not by wind at least. The developer enabled the use of hairworks for the witcher 3 albeit with the following warning. The entire world knew this.
So yeah i got a high end pc with a gtx 980. But here s the bottom line. That may be due to me using an r9 280x though may have better results on an nvidia card. I may actually be in the minority here but i don t actually like the hairworks on geralt.
My hairworks looks good but its not worse than what you see without it. Gamertags for psn and xbl doomjester. In the end the witcher 3 runs just as smoothly on the radeon r9 290x as it does on the gtx 980 if you choose not to enable hairworks which and this is essential is completely optional. Sure i have to lower a few settings to get it smooth at 60fps with hairworks.
Nvidia and cd projekt red spent two years optimizing hairworks for the witcher 3. Framerate dropped a moderate amount on nvidia hardware but mysteriously took a massive hit on amd hardware. I think it looks too silky like there s no actual weight to the hair at all. Hairworks does indeed have a huge impact on amd performance in the witcher 3 but with the hair and fur rendering tech disabled the r9 290x is competitive with the gtx 970 exactly as it should be.
