Nvidia Tesla K80 Rendering
The tesla k80 looks like a true monster of a gpu for compute tasks based on its cuda core count.
Nvidia tesla k80 rendering. We re using k80 gpus for rendering blender projects at renderstreet and everything works well. Nvidia has done dual gpu tesla cards before tesla k10 and there have been dual gpu gk110 cards before geforce titan z but nothing quite like tesla k80. Compute performance of nvidia tesla k80 compute. The xorg conf configuration example snippet shown above is what i use for the nvidia tesla k80 cards on a headless remote visualization server running the nice dcv software but is also very similar to what is used on the blue waters xk7 nodes.
In order to take advantage of the gpu for rendering you will also need an x server running on the node managing the opengl context of the gpu. For tesla k80 nvidia has produced a new gpu gk210 and then put two of them into a single card. Built on the 28 nm process and based on the gk210 graphics processor in its gk210 885 a1 variant the card supports directx 12. I believe you can probably with an onboard graphics card only for vnc output i guess.
The tesla k80 was a professional graphics card by nvidia launched in november 2014. Note that on newer generation gpus including tesla k40 and k80 the graphics capabilities are enabled by default and the gom does not need to be set explicitly. Not sure if vnc needs a real graphics card or not though without top notch performance due to the overhead of this method. Running x11 on systems without consoles or virtual terminal kernel support.
The gk210 graphics processor is a large chip with a die area of 561 mm and 7 100 million transistors. Blender debug cycles outputs ignoring device tesla k80 not officially supported yet release notes of 2 77 say. I made it to work with tesla k40. I know that despite its age it excels at double precision floating point operations but does anyone know how it compares to newer cards like 1070ti and 1080ti when rendering in autodesk maya maxon cinema4d blender etc via cuda opencl renderers like v ray radeon prorender redshift octane etc.
I m trying to render on a tesla k80 but it doesn t work.
