Nvidia Linux Backlight
The 3 2 and earlier kernels are were allright.
Nvidia linux backlight. There is no longer an icon in the taskbar to adjust the brightness. No problem with the brightness control with the fn f5 f6 keys. With kernel 5 7 12 and nvidia drivers 450 57 everything was working fine. I tried changing the backlight in gnome running on xorg not wayland and also by directly.
After upgrading to kernel version 5 8 on my arch linux machine backlight controls stopped working for my geforce gtx 775m mac edition. With linux mint 18 kernel 4 4 and nvidia 361 enabling optimus in the t420 bios in the display section causes everything to work out of the box on the thinkpad t420. I reinstalled linux mint cinnamon 19 3 recently with the default new graphics drivers. No problem with the brightness control in the taskbar.
The fn f5 f6 keys no longer work. Change brightness on linux through sysfs. Upgrading to kernel 5 8 and keeping drivers at version 450 57 broke the backlight controls. This is not just a slackware problem also happened with archlinux.
I should add that the backlight controls work until the nvidia spash screen appears. When setting laptop s lcd brightness up and down with the fn f8 fn f9 keys this has no effect on the lcd screen. The display backlight related sysfs parameters are under the sys class backlight directory. If the brightness adjustment key s are not working even after adding the kernel parameters then you could try to directly manipulate the sysfs interface.
In this case see perceived screen brightness can be adjusted with a pwm control not implemented in the linux kernel or via software color correction. Since i installed the nvidia drivers. Nvidia corporation g71 quadro fx 2500m rev a1 any kernel from 3 3 and later will not allow me to change the backlight intensity and everything is just so dark as to be unuseable.
